Be currently enrolled at a Kemper Scholars Program Partner Institution
Only students at Kemper Scholars Program Partner Institutions are eligible to become Kemper Scholars.
Be a first-year full-time student
Eligible candidates must be first-year students enrolled full time at a Kemper Scholars Program Partner Institution at the time of their application. Candidates should have completed no more than 25% of the minimum number of credits needed to graduate at their institutions. The Kemper Scholars Program Campus Coordinator will verify first year standing at the time of application.
Be academically successful
The Kemper Foundation seeks exceptionally mature and open-minded students with a record of academic achievement, extracurricular activity, community service and demonstrated leadership ability. Successful candidates must maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average.
Students who arrange for a medical or personal leave may be reinstated as Kemper Scholars if their absence is not longer than one academic term. Students receive no financial aid from the Kemper Foundation while on such leave.
Should a Kemper Scholar transfer to a school that is part of the Kemper Scholars Program, their retention in the program will be considered by the Kemper Foundation in consultation with representatives of the new institution.
Be committed to pursuing a career in business and open to exploring job opportunities in the insurance industry
Students must have an interest in leadership and management. The Kemper Foundation’s historical mission is to introduce students to careers in the various aspects of the insurance industry. We ask Kemper Scholars to be genuinely open to considering the value of a career in this field and to completing their internships with a positive commitment and attitude.
Be committed to your responsibilities as a Scholar
The Kemper Foundation commits financial support and personal assistance to each Kemper Scholar. In return, Scholars commit themselves to exemplary behavior, regular contact with Foundation staff, clear and consistent communication, service in the community, participation in Foundation-sponsored activities, maintaining good grades, and full participation in both the post-sophomore summer in Chicago and a post-junior year summer internship.
Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Students who apply to become Kemper Scholars need a valid social security number that will be verified by with the Registrar by the Kemper Scholars Program Campus Coordinators.
