Summer Internships for Rising Seniors

Following junior year, Kemper Scholars complete a 9-week summer experience, which includes an 8-week, paid Business Internship, together with the Annual Kemper Scholars Conference.

Kemper Scholars choose their internships, which they may complete in positions with the Kemper family of companies or in other for-profit businesses.

Kemper Corporation Internships

All Scholars are eligible for paid internships with Kemper Corporation, where they are matched with positions based on their individual interests and the company’s needs. In the past, Kemper Corporation internships have been available in many different departments, including:


  • Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Operations Process Improvement
  • Human Resources
  • Treasury
  • Special Investigations Unit


  • Claims
  • Brand Communications
  • Internal Audit
  • Accounting
  • Investments

Other Business Internships

Scholars who decline Kemper Corporation internship are responsible for securing their own paid summer internship in another for-profit business. Work assignments must be approved by Kemper Foundation staff and meet these criteria:

  • Full-time work (35 hours or more a week)
  • Host sites with five or more full-time employees
  • Located at a site with other employees (no telecommuting or remote work)
  • Provide challenging work

Business Internship Time Commitment

Participation in the Kemper Scholars Program requires that Scholars have a full 9 weeks between the end of spring term and the beginning of fall term in order to complete their Business Internship and attend the Annual Conference.

Travel to the internship site and return home or to school following the conference is generally accommodated over the weekend before and after the 9-week program.
